In 1997, Jacksonville’s City Council declared the last Saturday in
February of each year as JaxPride Day by Resolution 1997-190-A. However, one day is typically not long enough
to complete a project, so JaxPride dedicates an entire week for groups to
finish a beautification or educational project.
JaxPride Week is an opportunity for Jacksonville residents, students, and
business owners to get involved in beautification efforts or educational
projects. Neighborhoods, civic &
community groups, schools, churches, business organizations, government
agencies, and JaxPride board members perform projects that aid in enhancing
Jacksonville’s visual environment. Educational
projects range from constructing & maintaining a butterfly garden to
collecting, analyzing, and recycling litter and debris.
Awards are presented to the most outstanding projects at JaxPride’s Annual
Ideas & Actions Forum held after JaxPride Week. The Flossie Brunson Continuous Achievement Award and JaxPride's Leadership Award are also presented are also presented at our annual Ideas & Actions Forum.
It should be noted that beautification efforts and educational projects that occur during the preceding year can be also be nominated for JaxPride Week awards.
