JaxPride was formed in 1989 to address the concerns that local beautification efforts were sporadic, fragmented, and frequently conflicting.  The lack of greenery, graceful design, and maintenance that distinguish the country's most livable cities motivated the founders of JaxPride to organize a facilitating umbrella organization to assist various groups in formulating and implementing beautification programs.  The concept for JaxPride arose out of the sense of need and opportunity to promote and protect Jacksonville's visual vitality.

History

JaxPride was an offspring of Greenscape, which formed in 1975 to beautify Jacksonville’s visual environment through its landscape.  Since its inception, Greenscape's mission has evolved specifically to enrich our community through the planting, protection, and promotion of trees.

After JCCI released its Visual Pollution Study in 1985, it became evident that there was a need for an advocacy and education organization to protect and enhance Jacksonville’s visual aesthetic environment.  As such, JaxPride was formed to promote and preserve Jacksonville’s quality of life through efforts to improve its landscape.

With elation and great appreciation, JaxPride has been the recipient of several awards.  Each award and recognition is an honor and JaxPride is grateful in their acceptance.  Some of these awards and recognitions include the following:

  • American Society of Landscape Architects: 2007 Award of Honor for Charrettes
  • Mimi and Lee Adams
  • Mayor's Neighborhood Service Award
  • FPZA: Public Awareness Award
  • City of Jacksonville: Certificate of Appreciation
  • Keep Florida Beautiful: Certificate of Merit
  • Teen Challenge: Certificate of Appreciation
  • Yeladim Appreciation of Tu B'Shevat Gift
  • Clean it up/Green it up: Appreciation for Efforts to Beautify Jacksonville
